This product gets a fit foodie thumbs up! Herbs and seasonings become doubly important when you begin to cook and eat in a healthy way because you can no longer rely on things like butter to make your food delicious… you have to be inventive. Finding a special and unusual blend is worth the effort. Last summer, on a trip to Vermont, I was eating an ear of roasted corn when I noticed a jar of this Vermont Country Seasoning sitting on the table with the salt and pepper. One taste convinced me that this mix would be just the thing for hard to season vegetables.
The blend is made up of salt and eight herbs and spices. Although the jar doesn’t say, I’m guessing that pepper is one, and nutmeg is another. As I said, it’s a strange and interesting blend. The addition of nutmeg makes this the perfect blend for winter vegetables -- especially squash, cauliflower and turnips. It’s particularly good mixed with mashed butternut squash.
This spice blend was available all over Vermont and New Hampshire, but if you live elsewhere you might have to get it via the internet instead. One place that sells it is Gillingham & Sons General Store - http://www.gillinghams.com/pages/VermontFoods/seasonings.htm.
When you travel, don’t hesitate to try local spice blends. You never know what you might stumble upon.
