Wondering what little gifts to get the foodies in your life? Especially those who have everything? Here are some suggestions, based on my experience. These are lower priced gifts, all in the affordable range, perfect for hostess gifts.
Microplane Grater or Zester. http://us.microplane.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=18 See my other post about this wonderful tool.
Onion Chopper. I prefer the Progressive brand to the Alligator brand for one very good reason -- the Progressive has a compartment that the chopped onions fall into. The compartment even measures your chopped onions. Plus, this device is very versatile - I use it to chop summer squash, carrots and garlic. http://www.amazon.com/Progressive-GOC-300-International-Onion-Chopper/dp/B000A389IM

Garden in a Bag. Sounds crazy, but these are brown paper bags filled with all you need to grow basil, oregano, cilantro, dill, or any number of other herbs. You just mix the seeds and soil with water in the bag, and wait for it to sprout. Fun for foodies and kids alike. http://store01.prostores.com/servlet/pottingshedcreations/the-Gardens-dsh-in-dsh-a-dsh-Bag/Categories

Onion Goggles. Ok, don’t laugh. I own a pair of these, and they have saved my eyes many times while I was chopping onions. If you, like me, are sensitive to onion fumes, these may be just what the doctor ordered. Added benefit, anyone watching you cook is sure to get a hoot! Available at www.surlatable.com
A Food Magazine Subscription. Just remember to match the right magazine to the right person. Do they try to cook low calorie dishes? Try Cooking Light or Eating Well. Are they a serious cook? Try Gourmet or Bon Appetite. Vegetarian? Try Vegetarian Times (I recommend it) or VegNews. Wine lover? Try Food & Wine Magazine. Do they like the scientific side of cooking? Try Cooks Illustrated. Amazon (www.amazon.com) has them broken down by category so it’s easy to pick the right magazine.
