Water, Water Everywhere

Every diet, no matter which you look at, stresses drinking a LOT of water. But what if don't like water? Or you just can't drink that much? What do you do? Here are some tips:

-- Switch to seltzer and add lemon or lime

-- Put an herbal teabag into a bottle of water and let it sit in your fridge for a while. It flavors the water, but doesn't add calories. Strong flavored teas work best, like Celestial Seasonings Raspberry Zinger, Lemon Zinger, or Blueberry, but other flavors, like peppermint are also good (and very refreshing).

-- Drink hot herbal tea -- it counts as water, and who knows, it might have antioxidents or something else good in it.

-- Get flavored syrups (raspberry, peach, cherry) and add a splash to water. Don't add too much - it will add calories. Sugar free syrups won't add calories, but are full of chemicals, so be wary.

-- Drop something unusual into your water. Forget the boring old lemon or lime, try a wedge of orange, a slice of pineapple, or a few cut up strawberries. All will add a little flavor.

-- Make a new rule for yourself -- no eating until you drink a glass of water. Have a glass before each meal.

-- Drink soup - not the creamy or chunky sort, but a broth or bouillon.

-- Try this recipe for a "cranberry splash"- pour 1 oz of cranberry juice into a glass, fill the rest of the glass with lime seltzer, garnish with a slice of fresh lime.

As hard as it is to get those 6-8 glasses in a day, all evidence has shown that drinking enough water helps weight loss, improves skin, and is just plain good for you. Studies have shown that people sometimes eat when they are in fact dehydrated. So drink up!
